Write for us

Student writers are at the heart of LifeSci Lens, providing their unique voices and insights across a diverse range of life sciences disciplines. Writing for us is a great opportunity for you to share your scientific interests and opinions with our readers, while also improving your scientific communication skills and enriching your CV. Any UoB student can write an article for us at any time on a freelance basis, and our Editorial Team will work with you until we can publish your work. Submissions are handled invididually, but writers can submit as many articles as they want, across multiple issues.

How we support you

As writers are such an integral part of our work, we are devoted to aiding your efforts and ensuring that our process treats you fairly.

  • Feedback and guidance from our editors to show how you can get the most out of your articles, coupled with a peer review process to provide multiple perspectives and protect scientific integrity.

  • Anonymity throughout the editing process in order to avoid any bias and ensure fairness; all submissions will be treated equally.

  • Chance to respond to editorial suggestions you legitimately disagree with to explain your point of view, ensuring your final article remains faithful to your own unique ideas.

  • Helpful and friendly senior team always available to assist you with any questions or concerns you might have, including to resolve disagreements with your editors or to manage complaints.

What can I write about?

You are free to write about any life sciences-related topic that you are interested in; we aim to publish a diverse range of article topics, styles, and voices. Articles can be written either individually or co-authored. Articles have typically been typically around 700 words, but this is flexible depending on the content, and your editor will assist you in keeping your work concise and engaging.
